Description
SONNY STITT - KALEIDOSCOPE
ESQUIRE LABEL 32-112
LATE 50s/EARLY 60s UK LP
DIFFERENT SLEEVE FROM THE USA PRESTIGE RELEASE
RARE AND COLLECTABLE, THIS VERSION UNLISTED ON DISCOGS
HEAVY VINYL - NICE AUDIO
VINYL GRADES VG++: Retains a bright sheen. Some faint hairlines and very minor scuffs visible under halogen light but nothing feelable or of detriment to the audio quality.
PLAY TESTING: Fully play tested. Generally plays excellently without intrusive pops or clicks. Some very faint low-grade crackle is just audible in places on side two. The only noticeable repetitive ticks are on the track “Liza” but there is a note on the sleeve confirming that this is from “a fault in the original matter” presumably referring to the original acetate.
SLEEVE GRADES VG+: Bright and clean to front with just some small minor edge creases. The rear (triple flipback) does have some marks, namely a blue felt tip “tick” to top left and some pink/orange highlight pen marks to some track titles (please see photos). Some minor moisture staining to bottom left and bottom right. Generally perfectly serviceable.
INNER SLEEVE: White generic
LABELS: Very nice condition. Some very small biro markings to side one label (please see photos).
Very nice copy of this classic album from Sonny Stitt, supported by Charlie Bateman and Art Blakey amongst others.
Esquire were licenced to release the Prestige label recordings in the UK from 1947. They are now highly sought after and most collectable. These recordings date from 1950-2 and, judging from the catalogue number were probably released on Esquire about 1959-60
Happy bidding!
At the moment I regret that I am only posting to the UK (Second Class Signed For) and just Paypal please. International postage considered, by prior arrangement only.
Please check my other listings. Postal discounts for multiple buys always available.
Please be aware that the photos on my listings are always of the actual item and not stock shots. I always give a very honest (albeit conservative) description of the item. Whilst not being a professional trader (I am a retired music librarian and longtime record collector), items will be packed using only the best of materials and posted within 48 hours of payment. Please see my feedback for independent views.
For your information the gradings I use are as follows:-
Mint (M) - Brand New (Sealed)
Near mint (NM) - Looks almost unplayed * Cover almost brand new
Excellent (EX) - Maybe a light scuff but otherwise great condition * Cover will have some wear/slight crease/faint ring wear etc
Very good (VG) - Could have scuffing and some light scratches etc *Cover might have some creasing/fading/ring wear/marks or writing but still reasonable condition
Good (G) - Should play through ok but will have plenty of scratches etc * Cover could be ripped/stained/unglued etc
Fair - Very ordinary/ Might play but most likely just for the collection* Cover will be pretty terrible.
+, ++ or - (minus) after the grading denote variations within the grade.
