Recorded on February 16, 1959, this Verve session features Sonny Stitt on tenor and also, Jack Sheldon and Lee Katzman on trumpets, Frank Rosolino on trombone, Al Pollan on tuba, Jimmy Rowles on piano, Buddy Clark on bass, Lawrence Marable on drums and arranged by Jimmy Giuffre who also plays tenor. SIDE A: NEW YORK BLUES; GUIFF; LAURA; SONNY BOY and DOWN COUNTRY. SIDE B: SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN; UPTOWN; DOWNTOWN; I LET A SONG GO OUT OF MY HEART and TWO FOR TIMBUCKTU. This is a MONO recording.
I have rated the LP as EX and the record jacket as M- for the following reasons. The vinyl on the LP is clean of any marks on both sides. The reason for the EX rating is that there are some marks around the spindle hole and a small section of the label is slightly raised, probably due to age. Otherwise, it would receive a M- rating. The record jacket is in excellent condition with little sign of wear and no taped seams. It receives the M- rating.
