Easily one of the most recorded saxophonists in the annals of modern jazz history, saxophonist Sonny Stitt’s catalog is filled with almost equal portions of the inspired and the routine. At his best, he was a melody man who combined a love of Johnny Hodges’ rich sonorities with a bop-inflected tartness akin to that of Charlie Parker. His technical mastery often times though made it very easy for Stitt to coast on autopilot, giving some of his lesser records a glib “blowing session” feel. Although he would often pick up a session or two here and there for various labels, Stitt began a 14-year association with Roost records in 1952.

(a)         THE ALBUM IS STILL FACTORY SEALED AND IS BELIEVED TO BE PERFECTLY MINT. Please note: sealed items are assumed to be mint and are sold as-is, as we have no way of inspecting them. For our policy on still sealed records ►click here (PLEASE READ BEFORE PLACING A BID).

(b)         The record is  apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)         Stereo  pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more preferable to its mono  counterpart. The mix is more graphic, the sound resolution more precise, and the channel separation (which does not exist on mono version) adds a whole new dimension to the music. Also, the stereo mixes are (by definition) somewhat different than on the mono version. We estimate that mono copies of this album outnumber stereo copies  by a ratio of at least 5:1.

(d)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

COVER IS STILL SEALED; HOWEVER, WE ARE UNABLE TO GRADE IT MINT OR NEAR MINT DUE TO MINOR FLAWS LISTED BELOW; WE GRADE THIS COVER AS EXCELLENT OR VG++(A SMALL PIECE OF SHRINK WRAP IS MISSING)

(PLEASE NOTE: THE SHRINK WRAP HAS SEPARATED ALONG ABOUT 20% OF THE OPENING SIDE AND 40% ON THE TOP SIDE, BUT THE ALBUM IS STILL VISIBLY SEALED)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-       Cover has a large original price sticker in one section not covered by the shrink wrap, which may be possible to remove with a little effort (we did not attempt to)

-       Front cover has a few reddish speckles scattered here and there (apparently, a minor printing flaw, being specks of the print dye)   (nothing significant)

-       Cover has a small quality control (inspection) stamp on the back panel

-       Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.

-       Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine  (nothing significant) (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)
