ORIGINAL 1970 PRESSING ON THE UK RCA INTERNATIONAL LABEL, STEREO INTS1118

Sort of a “best of” album by this UK band, who actually functioned between the years of 1967 and 1969, so the 1970 release date on this scarce album is a bit of a red herring. The music here dates from those prime Swinging London years, and shows a band who coulda held their own with the biggest psych pop acts of the day. They were pop with a big organ sound, a bit like Procol Harum without all the pomp and circumstance. The Light Is Dark Enough coulda easily come out on the Saga or Morgan Blue Town label – I hear similarities to not only Procol but the Velvett Fogg, Five Day Straw People, Elmer Gantry’s Velvet Opera, and anything else with “velvet” in the name (except Mel Torme). Take a listen to “Nodnol,” and wonder why this stuff isn’t featured a little more heavily on your playlist these days.
