Following the massive success and emotional resonance of "Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space'" might have been a struggle for many a band, but not so Spiritualized. Jason Pierce's spiritual warriors delved into still more unchartered romantically-aligned and chemically-altered mental netherlands on this, their 2001 fourth album. With its lush orchestration adding weight and celestial atmosphere to melancholy yet uplifting ditties like "Out Of Sight" and blues-derived barnstormers like '"The Twelve Steps" alike, "Let It Come Down" is a 21st century equivalent to soul-searching classics by the likes of David Crosby ("If Only I Could Remember My Name") and Gene Clark ("No Other"), its classic songwriting and ornate setting married perfectly to powerful pathos and tortured introspection alike.
