One of the very rarest psych folk albums from the UK and any time this album comes up for sale there is a sense of excitement. This one is nice, very nice, please read on . only a couple of hundred were pressed up for this German edition which is easily as rare as the coveted UK issue.  It is becoming nearly impossible these days to still find copies of the original first issue of this timeless album. This is one for the collectors as it is probably the very best copy which has come to Ebay over the last many years. This copy is unsurpassed for its sheer quality.

 For auction is a rare and all round excellent condition 1st U.K. press of Spirogyra's third album Bells, boots and shambles  from 1973 on the Brain label.

Original  sleeve is in really excellent plus condition with a fully intact and readable spine and scarcely any wear marks. No writing, No tears. Rare to see copies in such condition.This has been archived from day one and will be impossible to find. Would have been if it wasn't for the written dedication which actually makes it a standout time capsule from the early seventies!

Record itself in normal daylight is clean with a bright sheen. Even under a strong light this is fantastic without any lines visible at all.

Labels clean and unmarked and NM.

Play test showed superb clear sound and this album has clearly barely been played at all.

Here is a chance to own a super copy of a very rare and desirable album. 

  Musically haunting,  some strangely-strange melodies and great improvisations. This has long been a connoisseurs psych/prog/folk album and highly sought after. I have always found this extremely hard to find and only ever seen two copies before and none even in the same class or league as this stunning example. These acid-folk albums are hard to find like this with nowhere for unwanted sounds to hide amongst the delicate acoustic and vocal music, this gave a fantastic performance throughout. Seeing is believing – this amazing and quite beautiful cover is truly as wonderful as it looks.  

This is one that will stick in my mind for sometime long after its gone. . This album has been truly elusive and I have only once ever seen a copy before. Do not let this most prized classic slip the net.

Vinyl: NM.  Barely played as you will not be able to find anymore. No detectable spindle traces, this looks pristine, even under a very strong light there are no flaws. This vinyl sounds out of this world, a majestic classic. The audio has beautiful separation and there is no background noise. This vinyl looks and sounds great with a beautiful "just over the counter" sheen. I played this in full on my Linn Sondek/Rotel system and thoroughly enjoyed it.  I was even tempted to keep this as it will be impossible to find this ever again, it is indeed mega rare these days. Only two or three went up for sale this last year. Needless to say NO jumps or clicks. 

 Sleeve: EX+. Fantastic looked after sleeve without any issues. Beautiful deep unfaded colours. A superb iconic sleeve with the fantastic artwork. A  superb spine without any storage wear on the sharp edges. NO tears and NO splits The album has been kept in a protective sleeve from day one!!  No writing no marks no stains etc!! The opening is as crisp as it can possibly be and the top and bottom edges have virtually no wear. Just a couple of faint miniscule creases near the opening, barely noticeable. This is an upgrade copy. Probably one of the best you will ever find for this insanely rare album. A phenomenally scarce album and rumoured to only have been pressed in a quantity of 800. How many would have survived over the last 46 years??

This album is of a rare breed; one that can shatter your emotions and slowly melt you into a deep hole for thirty minutes and reciprocate completely in about three.

As well, for a British band, never before have I heard melodies so unmistakably American. Throughout my listening, images of the wild west, Grand Canyon and the wide open sunny plains filled my head, and it's truly a sublime experience. 'In The Western World' is written in such a way that, if you removed the lyrics and didn't tell me the title, I would nevertheless instantly know what the song was about. Songwriting of this caliber comes along far, FAR too scarcely, and I consider it one of the human race's great follies that so few are aware of this absolutely marvelous album.

Barbara Gaskin's vocals deserve special mention; yes, they really are as good as people have told you, and I'm not going to tell you any differently. Listen to her range on 'Spiggly' and 'An Everyday Consumption Song' and tell me with a straight face that you can match that pitch. You can't. Leave it to the professionals who do it right. I'm not even going to tell you about 'In The Western World', because I don't want to even slightly ruin the experience of what is definitely one of my favorite songs of all time. It's perfect in every sense of the word from start to finish, and culminates in one of the best climaxes in all of recorded audio. It's truly worthy of a smile, a nod, and the assurance that, maybe if just for a while, all is right with the world.

If there were some way for me to distribute this album to everyone on the planet, I would happily do so. I urge you to spend every penny it takes in tracking down this album. It's a crime that not enough people already have. (review from: progarchives.com)
