SPOOKY TOOTH Spooky Two 1970 UK ISLAND PINK i 2nd PRESS
MATT EJ DAY GF, 2/70 INNER SLEEVE, SUPERB COPY
SPOOKY TOOTHSpooky Two
1970 UK ISLAND (ILPS 9098) SECOND PRESSING OF SPOOKY TOOTH'S FINEST LP
THE DEEP, HEAVY, BLUESY "Spooky Two"
GREAT COPY - SEEN LITTLE PLAY
Spooky Two is this British blues-rock band's pièce de résistance.
All eight of the tracks compound free-styled rock and loose-fitting guitar playing, resulting in some fantastic raw music.
With Gary Wright on keyboards and vocals and lead singer Mike Harrison behind the microphone, their smooth, relaxed tempos and riffs mirrored bands like Savoy Brown and, at times, even the Yardbirds.
With some emphasis on keyboards, songs like "Lost in My Dream" and the nine-minute masterpiece "Evil Woman" present a cool, nonchalant air that grooves and slides along perfectly.
"I've Got Enough Heartache" whines and grieves with some sharp bass playing from Greg Ridley, while "Better by You, Better Than Me" is the catchiest of the songs, with its clinging hooks and desperate-sounding chorus.
The last song, "Hangman Hang My Shell on a Tree," is a splendid example of the bandmembers' ability to play off of one another, mixing soulful lyrics with downtrodden instrumentation to conjure up the perfect melancholia.
Although Spooky Tooth lasted about seven years, their other albums never really contained the same passion or talented collaborating by each individual musician as Spooky Two

LABELS: NEAR MINT
Clean and bright labels which have lost none of their strong vibrant colour.
There is very light spindle rash around the central hole on one side but there are no spindle traces as such
VINYL Visual: NEAR MINT
Practically unmarked and clean vinyl surfaces which have a deep glossy sheen
VINYL Audio: EXCELLENT+/EXCELLENT
Play-checked at loud volume and very strictly graded (as always) the sound performance is sensational throughout - very strong, very deep and beautifully warm and apart from the occasional click (nothing I found at all intrusive) there no other major audible distractions - no scratches, no groove-wear and no distortion.
All told, a lovely copy, certainly the finest I have heard in a long while and in my opinion just about as good as it gets (as these early Island releases are infamous for their quite often rough delivery)
SLEEVE: EXCELLENT++
But NEAR MINT bar a small patch of paper loss to the top spine corner (please see close-up photo) otherwise, clean, fresh and unmarked - an outstanding example - crisp and sharp with none of the common ring wear and beautifully clean inner surfaces
INNER SLEEVE: EXCELLENT++
The inner is clean and white and has barely seen the light of day (just a crease to the corner from where the record was inserted into the sleeve at the factory)
ALL RECORDS ARE PACKAGED WITH THE VINYL OUTSIDE OF THE SLEEVE TO PREVENT ANY 'KNIFING' DURING TRANSIT
A PROTECTIVE POLY SLEEVE, NEW INNER SLEEVE WITH ANTI-STATIC LINER, QUALITY BOX (NOT ENVELOPE) MAILER AND AMPLE STIFFENERS ARE ALWAYS USED TO ENSURE THAT YOUR RECORD ARRIVES SAFELY
