1973 was a hell of a year when it came to album releases. Despite personnel changes and a North American label change, the ever-reliable Spooky Tooth did their part in '73, with the November release of Witness. The group produced effort, which leans heavily on Gary Wright's compositions, opens strong with moody "Ocean of Power", while the nine song LP earns props for A-side closer "Things Change", plus "All Sewn Up", the bluesy "Dream Me a Mountain", the Mick Jones driven "Sunlight of My Mind" and the jamming "Pyramids". Cast in the long shadow of awesome album's issued in '73 by the likes of Led Zeppelin, The Who and Pink Floyd, Witness is a testament to Spooky Tooth's resolve and musicianship during a period of inner turmoil. Following the release of Witness, vocalist Mike Harrison left Spooky Tooth, and the group was left for dead after the 1974 pressing of The Mirror.

The PROMOTIONAL, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were often distributed among the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as four months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals", which is to say the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record.

(b)          The record comes in the original pale blue Island stock inner sleeve (we can see it through the promo cutout hole)

(c)             The record is  apparently pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·                               THE COVER

COVER IS (WEAK) NEAR MINT, STILL SEALED AND COVERED IN ITS ORIGINAL ►SHRINK WRAP

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has a neat, round PROMO cutout hole in one of the corners

-        Cover has a slight warp along the opening side; this will have absolutely no effect on the record.

-        Cover has a visible "wrinkle"(crease)  in one of the corners.

-        Cover has a light "wrinkle" (crease)  in one of the corners.

-         Cover has two corners slightly dinged (nothing significant)

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine
