Description
Here is an extremely rare original UK vinyl copy of Spring by Spring on RCA Neon (NE 6) from 1971. Not the best copy in the world but presentable enough until that mint unplayed copy turns up at your local car boot sale.
Hopefully my pictures will enable you to make your own evaluation but in detail:
TRIPLE COVER: all intact with no repairs, no tape, no nasty sticker damage or tears or creasing, a strong straight opening edge but otherwise edgewear top and bottom together with plentiful spinal wear plus a handwritten name on the top front cover (a previous Welsh owner, obviously, since only the Welsh had any chance of knowing about this album when it came out).
DISC: Fine shiny Neon labels with no untoward blemishes, no tears and no writing and just a little spindlewear (see photos); when examined under a halogen light there are plentiful surface marks on the disc, though there is nothing nasty and certainly no feelable scratches.
PLAY: Both sides play well all the way through with no sticking, jumping or clicking but there is some undeniable background noise present at times, though this is only noticeable during the quieter passages.
THE MUSIC: Spring's sole album, despite its rarity, is one of the most remarkable prog/rock LPs ever made - a majestic album awash with mellotron and guitar, and one that stands comfortably alongside In The Court of the Crimson King. Imaginative songs which twist and turn, delicate yet robust melodies played with the passion of Gravy Train's Ballad of a Peaceful Man, beguiling male vocals and held notes, all backed by gorgeous bass high up in the mix and Crimson-style percussive precision. Spring is marvellous mature music and an album of great depth which you will never tire of.
