Stanley Turrentine is the featured artist in this session with an all-star band arranged by Oliver Nelson. While Nelson's charts are funky and easygoing (without providing any solo space for the likes of Phil Woods, Clark Terry, and Jay Jay Johnson), they serve the purpose to inspire the tenor saxophonist. Turrentine is quite soulful on Percy Mayfield's "River's Invitation," and his huge tone carries the day in a waltzing chart of the 1960s hit "A Taste of Honey." The artist also contributed some originals to the date, including the easygoing "Little Sheri," which features the unison flutes of Danny Bank and Jerry Dodgion, and "Mattie T," a gospel-like song that almost seems like a march.

I would say that Blues and the Abstract Truth and Alfie are Nelson's finest two albums this one nominally as Turrentines date is his third best in all but name, very much like Somethin' Else is one of Mile's finest albums, despite it having Cannonball Adderley named 1st under the title. Big band Modern jazz was alive and well in this winning pairing.

The so-called "LITTLE" (or Juke Box) LPs ARE NOT to be confused for regular 7-inch, 4-track EPs which were widely commercially available. The 7-inch LITTLE LPs were made EXCLUSIVELY for use in Jukebox machines or for other promotional purposes and were usually accompanied by the set of 4- or 6 jukebox labels (usually, but not always, replicating the original cover artwork). The LITTLE LPs were NEVER commercially available in any way, manner or form, and are usually NOT listed as a separate category in the record collecting price books and directories.

-        Cover has two (2) small cutout holes in top corners

-         Cover has a partially split top seam (between 1 and 2 inches  / 2.5 to 5 centimeters)

-         Cover has a partially split bottom seam (between 1 and 2 inches  / 2.5 to 5 centimeters)

-         Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.
