ALL MUSIC.COM GUEST REVIEW Sometimes underrated and hard to find, this album is a very pleasant and stylish gathering of some top musicians, featuring among them Stanley Turrentine, Donald Byrd, Pepper Adams, McCoy Tyner, Joe Farrell, Kenny Barron and Ron Carter. The tunes are arranged by Duke Pearson and recorded superbly by Rudy Van Gelder. Stanley Turrentine's work with Duke Pearson creates an interesting and successful experiment with a large-ensemble making this Blue Note record sound funky with lots of groove solos and beats as 1967 required... The extensive liner notes written by the esteemed author of The Encyclopedia of Jazz, Leonard Feather, provide great details on the individual tracks. This album is a great find, indicative of the period. Of note: this album has a clean-cut 1/4" hole in the upper right corner of the cover.
