~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I've been going thru my massive vinyl record collection this winter and pulling out some LPs that I thought that someone else would want for their collection. I've been collecting records for over 40 years and it's time to pass some of them on to the next generation of collectors.
This week on EBay I am offering up this fantastic, clean copy of an original First Pressing of the Original soundtrack for the 1977 film "Star Wars."
This is my original copy that I purchased new, shortly after seeing the Film in the summer of 1977.
As more films in the saga emerged, the original film "Star Wars" was retitled 'Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope' but I have a hard time with that. It's still the 'First' and original Star Wars film to me.
This Soundtrack was Composed and Conducted by John Williams and is performed by the London Symphony Orchestra.
This is the original 2-LP gatefold version. It was originally released and distributed by the film distributor's own record label - 20th Century Records. 
It contains the 2 albums, the original 2-sided insert sheet of liner notes, and TWO copies of the original poster. The records also come in special deluxe white 'rice paper' sleeves.
The original 1977 USA First Pressings are on '20th Century Records', but the popular album was quickly repressed on '20th Century Fox Records', in late 1977 and 1978. The lack of 'Fox' in the Record Company on the label is a quick easy way to tell the First Pressings from later editions.
20th Century Fox Records went bankrupt in 1981. The '20th Century Fox Records' pressings which list RCA distribution are later pressings, circa 1979-1981. The re-pressings and re-issues are on RSO, PolyGram, Disney and other labels. This Soundtrack has been re-released many times with various cover art, but this is the true original 1977 OG version.
The music for this iconic soundtrack was recorded at Anvil Studios in Denham, England, over 8 long sessions in March 1977. Remixing and editing was done at The Burbank Studios, in Burbank, California in the early summer of 1977. The Album was released in June 1977.

This album includes 75 minutes of the original 88-minute score, from the 121-minute-long film. Interestingly this album has most of the Music fom the film, but it's NOT arranged in chronologic order. It was edited together to make the music flow better and showcase a better audio experience. The records are Auto-Coupled, so you could play the whole thing in order, without flipping the discs.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Cover is all black with the words "Star Wars" boldly printed on it in white using that classic Star Wars font.
The title on the cover is just 'Star Wars'. The title on the labels is 'The Original Soundtrack From The 20th Century-Fox Film, Star Wars'.
The back cover features a close-up of Darth Vader based on Tom Jung's iconic Poster. The inside of the Gatefold features a selection of iconic stills from the film.
Originals came with a great, colorful, fold-out poster of a space battle scene involving TIE Fighters over the Death Star. The poster was drawn by John Berkey. This record actually has TWO copies of the poster included. Many years ago, I stuck a 'spare' poster in it. One is crisp and clean, one has a few marks but is also quite nice.
Original pressings also have a 2-sided insert of liner notes written by Charles Lippincott, who was the boss of Lucasfilm's media affairs department. It has information about the film, the music, it's creation and a list of the musicians.
This early First Pressing has the price code, 2T-541 (0898), on the spine. Another was to identify originals. There is NO Star Wars T-Shirt order form in this record. Not all copies had one.
Original First Pressing labels, like these, can be identified by having underneath "Produced By George Lucas" the words "All Songs Composed and Conducted by John Williams" and underneath that says "All Songs Published by Fox Fanfare Music, Inc. (BMI)"
The Labels list the address of '20th Century Records' as 8255 Sunset Blvd. The jacket lists the address as 8544 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 'Star Wars' was a great story of Good conquering Evil, but many will agree that the Music is what made the film spectacular. The soundtrack is really the soul of the movie. 
The recording quality on the OG pressing sounds great. Crisp, clear, and very dynamic. This record sounds great, even being a 45-year-old recording. 
As you know, this music was composed for Star Wars by the legendary John Williams. It's fascinating to listen to this purely instrumental score again, all these years later. It's one of the most iconic film soundtracks ever made.
You really get a sense of how the music sets the moods of the Film and how the 'themes' for specific characters are used and re-introduced to help us follow the plot of the movie. 
The music is so connected with specific characters and environments that you can pretty much 'see' the movie in your mind's eye while listening to this album. Every track is unforgettable and full of imagination. 
Williams' compositions are masterful, unforgettable and instantly iconic. The film's rousing opening Title theme and the "Imperial March" are instantly recognizable to most listeners.
The music has just the right amount of depth, drama, tension, emotion and heroic themes required to bring the film to life.
The beautiful and expertly performed melodies perfectly communicate the action of scenes, and the overall message of Star Wars. Overall it really gives the feel of a long-gone era where honor and justice prevail over evil.
Never before had the listener been given such memorable, accessible, and instantly identifiable soundtrack to a film.
This original 'Star Wars' Soundtrack album continues to be one of the most important and influential pieces of music and some of the most beloved film music of all time. Williams' influence on every other film composer cannot be denied. 
The Soundtrack won 3 Grammy Awards in 1978; Best Score Soundtrack, Best Instrumental Composition (For the Main Title), and Best Pop Instrumental Performance. It also won the Academy Award for Best Original Score. It deserved them all.
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… they recorded the greatest movie soundtrack ever made. This Soundtrack is classic, timeless music and a part of American culture. It belongs in every great Vinyl collection.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CONDITION:  I tried to show good hi-resolution photos of the cover, labels and vinyl in my pictures.
VINYL: The vinyl looks great. Clean and Bright. There are a few hairlines and a few smudges, but still quite nice. This is my original copy from 1977 and I took great care of it. I tried to show some close-up pictures of the vinyl to show how good it looks. I'll call it VG+ to keep everyone happy, but you can see how nice it looks. I'm sure you'll be happy with it. It's been on my record shelves for 45 years and needs a good deep cleaning but I'll leave that up to the winning bidder.
LABELS: This is pressed on the original '20th Century Records' label. The labels are clean and bright. No marks or damage. The spindle holes are sharp and clean, suggesting minimal playing.
JACKET: The Gatefold Jacket is in nice condition. There is a little smudge in the front top right corner, which is hard to see due to the black cover, but not bad. The corners are sharp, with minimal bumping. Spine is fine, with the price code. There's some 'bulging' from the records inside, but no ring wear, no seam splits. At the middle of the lower gatefold seam there is some mild 'crinkling' but it doesn't show on the outside. I showed details in my photos. No names or stains. 
The all-black cover is notorious for showing fingerprints and damage, but this copy looks pretty good. I'll call it VG++ but you can see from my pictures it's quite nice.
The Poster(s), insert and original quality paper sleeves are all there. Overall, a very nice copy of this classic 'Star Wars' First Pressing from 1977.

I visually inspect all records under bright light, personally gently clean them with a soft cloth and then, if unsure, play them on a modern high-end turntable to get a true picture of condition. Please look at all the high-resolution pictures I added. They are all my own and are of the actual record being sold. The pictures are part of the description and can show small details, label variations, and condition better than I can put into words.
