STARCHILD “Children of the Stars” rare Canadian prog psych rock lp Listen

1978/Canada/Axe Records AXS 521….. here’s a clean original pressing of this Rare Canadian Hard Rock lp. The cover is in strong VG++ condition with light corner wear, light shelf wear(a little more at the top), small ding on the left side closer to the bottom of the cover, small spot of wear near the top on the opening edge, otherwise the cover is solid and clean with no splits or delete. The vinyl is in glossy VG++ condition with a few very light inaudible hairline scuffs. The record plays excellent with a bit of low level occasional background noise. I have recorded side one with no filters or sound manipulation. The labels are clean but side one has 2 labels and the top label is a bit wrinkled. A very nice copy of this rare gem! Starchild was formed in 1975 in Cambridge, Ontario when Bob Sprenger, Rick Whittier, and Neil Light, who played in a steady gigging band called Gaslight, decided to reform as a heavier rock band. The name of the band came from the Starchild Trilogy written by Frederik Pohl and Jack Williamson. Most of the band members were huge science fiction fans, and when the band's producer Greg Hambleton (who also signed Steel River to his Tuesday label) wanted something more futuristic sounding than the previous name, Thorne, the name change to Starchild was unanimous. After going through a few different drummers, they hired Greg "Fritz" Hinz and hit the road full-time.

The band's first recording was a 2-song demo ("Party of the Toads" and "Tough Situation") produced and engineered by a young Daniel Lanois in his mother's basement in Ancaster in 1976. Lanois went on to produce U2, Peter Gabriel, and Brian Eno among others.

Children of the Stars was recorded in Toronto in the autumn of 1977 and released in the spring of 1978. The band opened for fellow Canadian rockers Triumph, Goddo, and Moxy as well as others.

The album received moderate airplay across the country after release, mostly as promotion for the band's live appearances. Due to the fact there were no radio friendly commercial songs released as a charted single, it didn't chart. Being a very progressive rock style (influenced by other Canadian acts like Rush and Saga) in an age of disco and new wave music was detrimental as well.

MINT: as stated with no defects

NEAR MINT: as stated near Mint!, or Mint Minus, same thing, very clean with no defect to sound or visual appearance, one scuff or mark may be permitted but it will be mentioned in the description, a near Mint record looks and plays very clean

EXCELLENT: not much below near Mint, may have a delete hole and/or a minor defect or two not visually detracting from the cover, the vinyl will appear shiny and in clean condition with very minor defects not affecting the sound, still very clean and very collectable!

VG++ still a very nice copy with minimal cover wear and/or delete/splits, still visually appealing, the vinyl will retain it's original gloss and can have some minor scuffs/scratches that don't affect play very much

VG+ a little more cover/ring wear and delete, splits etc., the vinyl will still retain much original gloss with a bit more scuffs and/or scratches I may list a very rare or desirable item with a lower grade, I will try to list all defects, both cover and vinyl no matter the condition.
