STEAMIN' FREEMAN - Greatest Hits -- hard to find, original 1975 U.S. album. Groovy, lo-fi private press LP w/ greasy, long-haired Grateful Dead Hippie-Country Blues-Rock vibe from this obscure band, recorded live at Mooney's Irish Pub in San Francisco; they were apparently a popular live band in S.F. in the early 1970's and put out two LP's before breaking up. Several tracks venture into Psych/Acid Rock territory including "Don't Push Me Away," "The Windego" and "When Venus Sets Upon the Sea of Copernicus (I'll be Way Out in Space)." Lead singer/songwriter Steamin' Freeman Lockwood was originally from the Seattle area; he later migrated to L.A. and put out several more records under the name "Taylor Maze." He's now, apparently, a world-class mushroom & fungus photographer (!!) whose best-known book is called "Treasures from the Kingdom of Fungi" (and no, I'm not making this up.)
