PLEASE read entire listing--matrix info listed below, as well as any flaws to the item & a description of a duplicate copy versus this original.
1st: My sincerest apologies to the prior bidders & watchers on this listing. I was getting so many questions and most of it was covered in information I added to the description -- but it wasn't being looked at. I had ebay pull the auction (you have their apologies also) as I told them there was suspicion of this being a copy and I could prove it wasn't -- but I couldn't revise the listing to add that..! They, wonderfully, did a one-time favor on my request to cancel the listing & am allowing me to rerun this. Please know that they don't usually do this on an auction that has had bids and is less than 12 hours left, but ebay's Trust & Safety wants you to have all the information and this was the only way I could add that. I have left the price as it was originally ran.
THIS IS AN ORIGINAL 1964 ALBUM RECORD LP VJS 1085 Not a copy, not a duplicate!
This is Black label, silver Print, & has the album printing informtion on the spine. The Cover is Deep Purple (COLOR shows well in Pic #8).
I didn't retake the pics for this. Pic #8 shows the spine print if you use the zoom, but I have done a close up of that in pic #2, and added a close up pic of the scuff mark under the cover picture as the bottom portion of pic #2. All other pics are the same as what was ran before. Note the pic #1 has my finger on the upper right corner, that's not a missing portion...
This information was sent to me by a helpful ebayer: (add www.) rarebeatles dot com/photospg/ifield.htm (change dot com to a dot, then com...) Which states: This is the first version with the "Jolly What!" subtitle and portrait of a British Statesman wearing a Beatle wig. The LP was released February 26, 1964, 46 days after Meet The Beatles. It was issued in both mono and stereo with three different label styles- black label w/colorband and oval logo; with colorband and brackets label; and an all-black label with silver print. Counterfeits of the LP first appeared in the late 1970s, and can easily be identified by their lack of any spine writing, and a black background instead of dark blue or purple like the originals..
Also note that the original has STEREO centered on the top middle. Duplicates have the word Stereo on the bottom right corner of the front of the album.
Vee Jay Stereo pressings are much rarer than the Mono, This STEREO Record is a stunning example with all black label/silver print and the large VJ logo with left justified artist-only credits and the cover is Deep Purple.
I have lightened the pic ALOT in pic #7 to better see the record, but the label is BLACK, not Gray! that Picture also shows the cover as a light purple, that's the lightening effect, it is a dark Purple. The year is scratched into the record with the Matrix information, it says: 1-26-64.
There are 6 main scratches on this, see Pic # 7, I caught that one with the camera, (use the Zoom Feature, the scratch looks like a loose hair, but its a scratch) but I couldn't catch the others (it vanished with the flash!) Small scratches are there also, but they would be expected with the age of the record. I don't believe the scratches would prevent play, but I can't guarantee that as I don't have a record player.
The cover is NOT SPLIT along ANY edge. Wear on edges and all 4 corners, not extreme, although the Front Bottom Right corner is peeling a bit (1/3"x1/3") See Also: Water Spot on Back upper Right Corner - is not on the front. You can see a bit of Record Imprint on the front cover, top portion.
NO TAPE REPAIRS
The matrix information is hand scratched on each side and is:
Side One 64-3852-S then a triangle & 6298
Side Two 64-3853-S, under that is 1-26-64, then a triangle & 6298x
