Lets Get this out of the way to start with - this LP is from 1981. Normally I'm really wary of late folk LPs because once you get into the 80's the majority start to sound bad. This LP is an absolute belter, nearly every track is really good and 4 or 5 are brilliant. I've recorded this on to my computer and have been playing it for a few days now and it gets better and better. There's a definite Nick Drake influence here, lots of lovely cello and chimes. Gorgeous female backing vocals on a lot of the tracks and a great production, especially for the year. But the main thing that stands out about this record is the quality of the songwriting. Its nothing short of superb. I've soundclipped up excerts from three tracks to give you an idea of what the record is about. These are possibly not the best tracks but the ones I liked best after a few listens. The first excerpt clipped showcases some great understated acid-lead guitar and puts me in mind of the recent acid-folk band Espers. The other two clips showcase the Nick Drake influence better. This is an astounding LP. IT IS NOT DOCUMENTED ANYWHERE ON THE INTERNET !!
The LP gets one entry on popsike.com where a copy sold for £90. But get you chance to finally hear this great LP here. I'm afraid I've had to include a reserve on this one as I'm really tempted to keep it.
Again to re-interate - this NEVER shows up, pressed in minute quantities on the Ellie-Jay label (home of some rare punk and nwobhm) and if of such quality it is begging out for a repress.
Sleeve: VG+, one corner crease amd some sun fading over half the front sleeve
Vinyl: Excellent. On each side there is one weird 'water mark' or stain which I can't remove, they are noticeable but don't affect sound at all. Possibly a pressing fault?
The LP looks like it hasn't been played much at all although there is some crackle in places. The first track has some pops. The LP generally plays really well as you can hear on soundclips.
