The essence of progressive music is characterised perfectly on Voyage of the Acolyte, Steve Hackett's first solo album.
The former Genesis guitarist uses his instrumental mastery to conjure up musical images of sorcerers, magic, and old English castles with the primary use of keyboards and electric guitar.
Phil Collins on drums and vibraphone and Mike Rutherford on bass and fuzz 12-string contribute their talents to the churning synthesisers that accompany each passage.
The basic instrumental elements of progressive rock are heard loud and clear, including Mellotron, harmonium, flute, and bells, and none with a minor role to play.
Collins, Hackett, and Sally Oldfield all donate their voices to a few of the tracks, adding a nice touch to the heavy insertion of electronics.
Glimpses of oboe and cello can be detected underneath some pleasurable guitar work in "The Lovers and "Hands of the Priestess Part 1. and traces of King Crimson/Yes can be found all the way through the album.
A true progressive masterpiece, Voyage of the Acolyte is an album firmly stationed in the upper echelon of prog rock

Both labels re clean and unmarked with just a couple of spindle traces - seen little play
VINYL Visual: NEAR MINT
Both surfaces shine like-new with nothing but harmless wispy light hairlines under bright light
VINYL Audio: NEAR MINT
Plays beautifully throughout with practically nothing to fault.
A tiny touch of low-level surface noted on some (not all) of the quietest sections which is barely worth a mention but nothing else of note.
Always a big ask for this record with its many delicate, quiet passages
SLEEVE: EXCELLENT+
The silky matt gatefold is clean with sharp edges and spine where all text is clear and bold.
There is some very light spotting to the back but nothing major (please see close-up photographs).
All-in-all a really fine example of this delicate cover
