The 1968 first pressing in specially designed die-cut gatefold cover, the photo shoot for this album, front and insides of the gatefold reveals the charred remnants of amplifiers and equipment that had belonged to Canned Heat before a 1969 fire ripped through Canned Heat's house and rehearsal studio on Lookout Mountain Ave in Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles, California

The third Steppenwolf album, smacked of their powers ... the band were on every 'cool' teenagers tongue ~~ soaring in popularity from their then recent hits "Born To Be Wild" & "Magic Carpet Ride" ....keeping with the same hard gritty formula, At Your Birthday is filled with the rocked-out growlers that turned so many heads.  Steppenwolf highlights besides their top-10 hit "ROCK ME" (here), weren't top 40 hits but had the main ingredients of their previous hits infused into tracks like "Jupiter Child", "Chicken Wolf," "Cat Killer," "Mango Juice," etc etc...

At Your Birthday Party was the first Steppenwolf album to feature bass player Nick St. Nicholas from the LA psych band T.I.M.E. Although it was less critically acclaimed than their successful first two albums, "Steppenwolf" (Born To Be Wild) and "Steppenwolf the Second", it contained well-known hits, such as "It's Never Too Late" and "Jupiter's Child", as well as the colossal "Rock Me" - a top 10 hit.

"At Your Birthday" showcases Steppenwolf at their peak, coming out of, but not quite, the psychedelia edges of "Steppenwolf the Second" rather to step into the distinctive hard rook their later releases, sliding faster and rocking-out more furiously.

CONDITION: The cover: rated: MINT in factory cellophane ...really nice TOP clean copy in thick custom cut "window" gatefold cover. There is a promotional sticker on the outside of the cellophane as well as custom "ROCK ME" STICKER on front cover and remains really clean and top level with crisp shiny look all over. There are no bends, no splits, no writing and no delete marks. A beautiful cover!
