VERY RARE to find THIS CLEAN .... most copies from 50 years ago are worn out!
Original 1967 first pressing by the fabulous BOX TOPS featuring ALEX CHILTON who went on to BIG STAR fame ...here with the twin smash hits "The Letter" and "Neon Rainbow" ...
The Box Tops came out of Memphis in 1967 with a sound that both explored the possibilities of rhythm and blues while mixing the sound with straight forward rock 'n' roll. Alex Chilton's voice was flexible, capable of sounding Eric Burdon-husky (as on "The Letter") or sweetly innocent (as on "Neon Rainbow"). Chilton has said that the band's music on record was mostly him singing lead vocals.... Chilton's vocals are strong and, for the most part, as gritty as those on "The Letter." Has there ever been another case in poprock history when a teenager sounded like a wizened adult at the outset of his career, then his voice became higher and more youthful in subsequent years?
