Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. LOOKS UNPLAYED .... apparently issued some 15 years ago as a limited UK pressing that gathered together previously unreleased SMALL FACES "live" in studio sessions from 1965 - 1969... fab, gear & groovy Mod/Psych nuggets from the POPSIKE Swinging London paisley scene of the sixties... ...
Far more than the cute Mods that the press painted them, the band also boasted one of pop’s greatest-ever songwriting teams, Ronnie Lane and Steve Marriott. Classics such as the aforementioned “Tin Soldier,” “Song of a Baker,” “All or Nothing,” and “Itchycoo Park” are only a few of the stellar moments from a brilliant catalogue penned by this team. As The BBC Sessions proves, the band’s performance chops were top of the line as well. Focused primarily on their earlier incarnation as a R&B/pop band (before psychedelia took hold on the seminal Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake), the collection sports incendiary versions of Small Faces classics and is a treasure for every rock ‘n’ roll fan in the land.
Dialing it back to the 1960s with the previously unreleased live UK session by the high priests of Mod, Small Faces. Unfortunately, most people will remember Small Faces either by their later incarnation (as just Faces with Rod Stewart) or as purveyors of that 60s anthem Itchykoo Park. And you would think they were one-hit wonders.
And you would be so-SO wrong.
Small Faces were one of those bands which helped define the mid-60s in the UK. With a string of hits and a penchant for doing covers of some of the most important Soul ballads of the decade, Small Faces were anything but one-hit wonders and were anything but just another band from the British Invasion period. With the distinctive voice of Steve Marriott, Small Faces were one of the most acclaimed and influential bands of not only the Mod period, but later on as Psychedelia evolved.
Small Faces lasted only a short period of time, from 1965 until 1969, when Steve Marriott left to form Humble Pie (a band which went on to become a staple in the diets of most FM Rock station in the U.S. in the early 70s) – with the remaining members recruiting a guitarist and vocalist from The Jeff Beck Group, Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart, a new Small Faces was born. And that chapter of Rock History was waiting to be written.
But for even their short stint of three years, they managed to influence a string of bands, not only during the 1960s, but decades later, when Brit-Pop surfaced in the 1990s. They are still being rediscovered and re-evaluated decades after disbanding.
The UK sessions for the BBC Radio 1 series Top Of The Pops, was recorded in 1965 though 1968, that latter session just two months ahead of their milestone opus, Ogden’s Nutgone Flake.
One of the truly great bands who shaped the 60s into one of the more interesting decades for music.
