Strana Officina was born in Livorno in the early 70s, thanks to the passion for music of brothers Fabio and Roberto Cappanera (respectively, guitar and drums) who after hard hours of work as carpenters went in their rehearsal room playing songs of the their favorite bands: Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Rory Gallagher, Jimi Hendrix, etc...The name of the band comes from an idea of ​​the Cappanera brothers who obtained a space used as a rehearsal room in their father's workshop. In 1973 the meeting with the bass player Enzo Mascolo gives life to what for 20 years will remain the soul and strength of the band. The line-up was completed in 1978, with vocalist Johnny Salani, with whom they began to compose hard-rock-blues songs with Italian lyrics (some remained unreleased), such as "Profumo di Puttana", "Vai Vai", "Officina", " Non Sei Normale "," Sole Mare Cuore ", still played live in their shows, "Viaggio In Inghilterra" will be recored in the first Ep (1984) and was born from the experience lived by the band in UK, gone there to touch the places of origin of NWOBHM and bands as Judas Priest, Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. In 1982 Daniele "Bud" Ancillotti and Marcello Masi (second guitar) joined the band.

With this line-up they played in the first italian metal festival in Certaldo in 1982 and record the first Ep in 1984 (Minotauro Records). In 1983 the song "Non Sei Normale" is included in the compilation "Metal Eruption" (featuring also early Death SS, Crying Steel, ...) dedicated to the best Italian bands of the time and born by the idea of Beppe Riva (Rockerilla writer). In 1987, Marcello Masi is out of the band and it's time for the second EP entitled "Ritual": lyrics are now in english and the sound is heavier. In 1988 they finally released their first full-length, entitled "Rock & Roll Prisoners", definitive confirmation of their position as leading band of the Italian HM scene and play live in Switzerland with Krokus and other international groups. In 1993, after 10 years of intense activity and working on new songs, the Cappanera brothers unfortunately died in a tragic car-accident, interrupting their musical journey and closing a chapter in the italian metal music. It seems like the end of a dream, but it is not.

In the following years the band reforms: Daniele “Bud” Ancillotti (vocals) and Enzo Mascolo, bassist and founder of the band are joined by cousins ​​Dario and Rolando (Roberto's son) Cappanera. In the summer of 2006 Strana Officina plays as headliner at well known Gods of Metal festival in the day dedicated to italian bands, in 2007 "The Faith" is released, in 2010 it is the turn of new album "Rising to the Call" followed by many shows around Italy. After the CD reissues of the first albums and once again many km on the road, in 2018 they announce to be working on a new album and in the meantime releases to the fans a new remastered version of "The Faith", out for first time also in (double) vinyl format and "Non Finira 'Mai", containing only old material sung in Italian. "Law of the Jungle" (2019) is the latest album by this legendary band still rocking after more than 40 years!
