Another from my personal collection. Original UK pressing on the second Transatlantic label variation of the debut album by the obscure moster progressive rock group 'Stray' This album being one of my all time favourites! This particular album really rocks one of the best that I have heard! For any that have never heard this album before, 'this album and indeed this group absolutely rocks' absolutely awesome prog rock at its best! This album has now become very very collectable indeed and very very scarce to find originals especially in this awesome condition! The audio quality on this vinyl is very near as perfect throughout on my systems. The vinyl has barely ever been played at all! Very very rare to find! The original custom die cut gatefold cover is in at least excellent condition also very hard to keep and find like this indeed!! There are no audio sounding marks or scratches on this vinyl, you will be hard pushes to find a better sounding original! The Audio is graded as near mint, I haven't heard a better sounding copy!!

  Stray are a British band formed in 1966. Vocalist Steve Gadd (born 27 April 1952, in Shepherd's Bush, London), guitarist Del Bromham (born Derek Roy Bromham, 25 Nov 1951, in Acton, London) (ex Traders), bass player Gary Giles (born Gary Stephen Giles, 23 February 1952, in North Kensington, London) and drummer Steve Crutchley (born c 1952) formed the band whilst all were attending the Christopher Wren School in London!!. Richard "Ritchie" Cole (born 10 November 1951, in Shepherd's Bush, London) replaced Crutchley in 1968!.


 



 
 They signed to Transatlantic Records in January 1970. The group's brand of melodic, hook-laden hard rock proved to be a popular draw on the local club scene during the early 1970s!.
 

 


 However the band did not have commercial success with its record releases. At one stage Charlie Kray, (brother of the Kray twins Ronnie and Reggie), was their manager. Gadd left the band in 1975 due to artistic differences and was replaced on vocals by Pete Dyer!. The original Stray finally dissolved in 1977, although Bromham later continued to play in various resurrected versions of the project well into the 2000s!.


 




There are two Iron Maiden connections to Stray. The early song "All in Your Mind" from the Stray 1970 debut album was covered by Maiden, and Maiden bassist Steve Harris's daughter Lauren has covered "Come On Over". From late 2006 until early 2007, the band's back catalog of eight studio albums issued originally during the 1970s were re-released by the UK-based Sanctuary Records in compact disc format.






 
 The new releases are remastered and add bonus tracks culled from single B-sides, studio outtakes and BBC broadcast sessions. The Universal Music Group have just bought the entire back catalogue and Stray are touring again with Del Bromham (guitar and vocals), Stuart Uren (bass guitar and vocals) and Karl Randall on drums. The latest album titled VALHALLA produced by Chris Tsangarides (Thin Lizzy, Gary Moore, Anvil, Judas Priest, to name but a few) was released on October 4 2010 on Angelair Records. They celebrated the release by performing a special show at The Borderline venue in London October 6th 2010.

The Vinyl
This is the original thick, thick and chunky slab of vinyl weighs 150 grams, only found like this on the earliest pressings, these earliest pressings have deeper grooves! (later press are much flimsier and less robust) The vinyl looks awesome and retains its original sheen from new! Visually it is obvious that this has only had very very minimal play only and there are no scratches or marks that would effect the play and cause any clicks or pops! The playing surface is stunning for 40 years old!!
 

 
The Audio Quality
I have very carfully played this vinyl as usual track for track prior to listing at very loud volume on a top system.  The audio can not be surpassed on these earliest 1st pressings in my opinion truly stunning!, in fact this is probably one of the best that I have heard, looks and sounds barely ever played in my opinion!!!
The audio is cristal clear and vibrant all of the way through, Please note! (no) background noise\crackle during the audio  which is so common on these early pressings!!! This is so rare to find like this and in this condition. There is (no) skips or jumps and no signs of any groove ware or signs that this has been overplayed Please note!   Importantly there is no loud  clicks or pops heard during the audio, no distortion and certainly no skips or jumps.  I would class myself as highly critical , please look at my completed listings of records that I have sold of this calibre and you will see that I normally get it right! The audio quality on was near perfect\near mint on my systems (One of the best copies that I have seen or heard) Very rare to find after 40 years, and also 1st press, 1st issue, the rarest and most sought after in this condition!!
Please note! I always add this disclaimer! That I have given my honest opinion when describing the audio quality of this vinyl. and have played it through track for track. !, Please allow for the odd isolated static (not) consistant through out the audio!!! Remember this is an original (not) a reissue that is 44 years old and would have been played on a system that is 40 years old!! (One of the best that I have heard Audio graded as very near perfect \ near mint on my systems)

The audio is graded at the very very top near minty through out!!!!
 
The Labels
These are the 1st issue\ 1st press white with purple text Transatlantic labels (only 1st press) Bare minimal spider marks these can even be counted! little if no spindle ware (the hole is perfectly round) It is obvious that this vinyl has barely ever been played!


 
The Cover
This is the 1st issue ,1st UK press custom die cut gate fold cover! This is clean and straight without any splits or tares at the edges! Please note! There is light storage ware rubbing only noticeable at the spine edge corner if scrutinized! The die cut 'Stray' logo is in exceptional condition and has slight storage ware/creasing damage to it (see photos) only but no splits or tares (see photos) At the rear only noticed if scrutinized I can just see a small feint sticker removal shadow. There is no major nasty creases or nasty staining noticeable with age! The spine has slightly flattened with age but all writing is fully legible! (no) nasty names written! Clean and straight as it should be. This cover must grade at least excellent in my opinion!
