STRAY Saturday Morning Pictures (Transatlantic TRA 248) RARE UK 1st Mispress! MINT-
Very RARE early UK pressing of Stray`s third album "Saturday Morning Pictures", issued on Transatlantic Records (February 1972). A very RARE mispress, this specific record features two identical versions of "After The Storm": The track is repeated at the end of Side Two, in place of the listed track "Queen Of The Sea"!
A fabulous mix of progressive, hard rock, country and even folk-rock elements, the massively underrated Stray managed a trio (some would say a quartet) of inspired albums in the early-to-mid-seventies. "Saturday Morning Pictures" was the band`s third offering and finds the band effortlessly straddling a myriad of styles. A palpable honesty was perhaps the band`s most characteristic trait, as well as the inspired musicianship, especially of lead vocalist Steve Gadd, as well as keyboardist and guitarist extraordinaire, Del Bromham. Backing vocals on many "Saturday Morning Pictures" tracks are, by the way, by none other than P.P. Arnold.
GRADING:
MINT- COVER with very minor storage wear. Please see photos for details.
- Unlaminated gatefold sleeve.
- Very light colour fading along the top edge, front and back. Other than that, the sleeve is practically perfect.
- The record comes in its original MINT- condition paper inner sleeve.
MINT- RECORD that looks practically unplayed.
- Pristine vinyl on both sides, with impeccable audio reproduction throughout.
- Lightest paper scuffing, from sleeve removal only.
- No scuffs, hairlines or other visible wear to the record.
- First-pressing glossy Transatlantic Records labels with no spindle wear whatsoever.
- The matrix stamps in the run-off grooves read "TRA 248 A - 2U Babil" (stamped) and "TRA 248 B - IE" (hand-etched).
NOTE: The hand-etched matrix stamp and numbering ("B- IE") on Side Two is unusual, to say the least: It is possible that a provisional lacquer was accidentally used for Side Two - which would go some way to explaining why the second track on Side One "After The Storm" is repeated as the final track of Side Two, instead of the correct "Queen Of The Sea". The latter track is therefore missing...
- Mothers/Stampers: "2 / AIK " on Side One and "- / AIA" on Side Two.
- This record is certified to be an original UK first pressing of "Saturday Morning Pictures", released in February 1972.
