Description

Here's a REALLY FUN Deco Detrola radio- phono from the mid/ late 1940s that's sure to please! The audio chassis was restored (wiring, caps, resistors, etc.) by an 80 year old ex radio repairman in my area a few years ago. The original changer didn't work, but I found an NOS Detrola changer of the EXACT SAME TYPE, still in the box, right here on eBay. This changer is in the machine and has very few hours. The turntable flocking is like new and the motor and mechanism are very quiet. There are two small paint chips out of the tonearm where yours truly let things get a little out of control while installing the changer. i then installed an NOS correct Astatic Crystal cartridge and NOS Philco Ruby needle, also eBay finds. (Ain't eBay great??) The AM radio plays great and picks up lots of stations. The dial lights up great, and the station indicator needle appears to be dead on the money. The record changer easily plays a stack of 10" or12" 78RPM records. All in all, this thing functions and sounds GREAT for a 60 year old machine. BUT, even better than that is the case! The waterfall Deco tabletop cabinet is so cool you can't help grinning every time you look at it. The finish appears to be original, but who knows? the original knobs and speaker grille are present. the top fits slightly lopsided, the motorboard (the part the changer sits on) is warped, and the laminated wood is flaking at the rear "vents" in the lid, but none of these issues really affect the appearance, nor do they affect functionality at all. This changer was designed to be activated by an "eccentric" (wavy) stopping groove on the record; those with a flat groove won't trip the changing cycle. Also, this changer tends to jam on overthick or slightly outsized records (like OKeh Electrics or Columbia Viva Tonals from the late 1920s). All in all, though, you can't beat it for style! I just got this digital camera, and havent mastered how to crop out all the extra junk in the picture- SORRY! SOLD STRICTLY AS-IS, it should arrive OK but I can't guarantee fragile electronics. Please be prepared to pay for bombproof overpacking and shipping. INSURANCE IS MANDATORY. WOULDN'T THIS LOOK GREAT WITH A WATERFALL BEDROOM SET OR LIVING ROOM SET?
