Description
JOE VENUTI (violin) and EDDIE LANG (guitar) changed the course of jazz and pop music history by introducing the fiddle and guitar as front-line hot solo instruments. Friends since they were kids in Philadelphia, they developed their signature sound over a period of years, and finally sprung it on the public with this stunning 1926 record, "STRINGING THE BLUES" and "BLACK AND BLUE BOTTOM." It deserves a place in ANY collection of jazz or pop music.
Venuti and Lang directly influenced Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappely. "Gypsy Jazz" wouldn't exist today without V&L.
This original 1926 "Viva-Tonal" Columbia 914-D is in Very Good Plus plus condition! Plays very well, except for some surface damage, especially one ripped groove on "Stringin'."
N.b.: This copy has take -2 on "Black & Blue," and take -8 on "Stringin'."

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
