Originally released in 1979, 'Rapper's Delight' is widely credited as the first rap single to achieve major mainstream success, opening the door for artists like Run-D.M.C., LL Cool J and, later, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z and Nas. Built around Bernard Edwards' iconic Chic bassline, it blends disco's infectious groove with a pioneering flow that still feels effortlessly smooth over four decades later.
