Recorded mostly in Chicago around 1960, and probably released in 1966 on Ra's own Saturn label.
Originally titled 'Rocket Number Nine', the album acquired its present name, and the red-on-white sleeve by Claude Dangerfield, by 1969.

The album is known particularly for the two songs featuring space chants - 'Interplanetary Music' and 'Rocket Number Nine Take off for the Planet Venus' - that would stay in the Arkestra's repertoire for many years;
'Rocket Number Nine points toward the music that the Arkestra would be playing on the lower East Side of New York City. The tenor sax solo isn't the work of John Coltrane in 1962, but of John Gilmore in 1960. And not even Ornette Coleman's bassists were playing like Ronnie Boykins at this date.' (Robert Campbell)

Clean and unmarked labels with only one light spindle trace per side (the spindle hole is still quite tight)
VINYL Visual: EXCELLENT+
Both surfaces retain their original deep glossy sheen.
There are some superficial light pressing blemishes and pressing 'dimples' but none of these have any audio impact
VINYL Audio: EXCELLENT+
Great copy which plays beautifully throughout with no major audio issues of note - the sound performance is incredibly impressive - crystal clear, loud, bright, razor sharp and wonderfully immediate.
To be hyper-critical there is a touch of low level surface noise on the run-ins, between some the tracks and on some (not all) of the quieter sections - no doubt present since manufacture, but absolutely no other audio distractions - this is a fantastic copy of some very early work from the Arkestra.
Graded as EXCELLENT+ (because that's how it sounds) but in essence it's as-new (probably only ever been played once)
SLEEVE: EXCELLENT++
The original thick card matt cover is clean and unmarked with no splits, only the lightest of rubbing to the surfaces and one light 'bump' to the top opening corner - otherwise, superb
