SUN RA - RARE MINT VINYL UNPLAYED 1973 IMPULSE REISSUE "THE MAGIC CITY".
Originally recorded in 1960 (unless they listed it incorrectly because I have seen it listed as originally recorded &released in 1966) and released on the Saturn label, Impulse and Saturn Research reissued this recording in 1973 in the gatefold format that was a frequent feature of Impulse releases. The interior photos are outstanding and so is the music. The title track is a sweeping astral surfing experience that clocks out at 27:24 and is all of Side 1 featuring outstanding solos, especially Marshall Allen's almost frenetic piccolo performance! Half of Side 2 (10:59) is the somewhat intense, but no less stimulating, "The Shadow World." One thing can always be certain, the out-of-this-world music of Sun Ra will never disappoint!
Of note: some slight shelf wear on the spine, minor dings on three corners of the cover and the promotion sticker on the front cover.
According to Discogs, copies in this condition are selling in the $55 - 75 range!
