Description
You are bidding on "IT'S YOU BABY" and "HIGHWAY 61" on Cobra 5006, by famous blues singer and pianist SUNNYLAND SLIM.
Both sides were recorded in Chicago, 1956, with Sunnyland Slim on vocals and piano, Shakey Horton on harp, Jimmy Rogers on guitar, Willie Dixon on bass and S.P. Leary on drums.
Albert "Sunnyland Slim" Luandrew (September 5, 1906 – March 17, 1995) was born in the Mississippi Delta and moved to Chicago in 1942.
Both sides are up tempo blues.
I had the privilege of seeing Sunnyland Slim perform at a "Jam With Sam" R&R and R&B show in Chicago the summer of 1957. My friends and I were expecting him to perform these songs but were dismayed when he played the piano and sang a jump R&B song with a small combo sounding nothing like these recordings. I had no idea what "jump" was at the time but have grown to appreciate it.
I'm not a record dealer, but am getting up in years and am starting to sell my small collection, as my children and grandchildren are not interested.
I bought this record new in the spring of 1961 at Rose Record Store on Wabash Avenue in the Chicago Loop. They were cleaning out their 45 rpm files and had thousands of 45s for sale at six for a dollar. I bought lots of Blues, R&B and R&R records. This was one of them.
Condition: No scuffs or scratches on the grooves, probably a Very Good+
