Up for auction is a super rare Doo-Wop LP by the legendary group The Spaniels titled THE SPANIELS on the Vee Jay Records label...#1024, recorded in 1960.  This LP rarely comes up for sale, and when it does the asking price is through the roof...in any condition!  Serious collectors of Doo-Wop music know this legendary group very well, and to have an opportunity to add this highly collectible LP to their collection is a rare treat.  The Spaniels, who were from Gary, Indiana, are arguably one of the true legends in the world of Doo-Wop.  Their lead singer Pookie Hudson formed this group in 1952 while still at Roosevelt High School, and Pookie is credited with pioneering the technique of the lead singer of a vocal group having his own microphone, while the other members of the group shared another microphone.  The Spaniels were one of the first two artists to sign with the legendary Vee Jay Records, and their biggest hit was Goodnite, Sweetheart, Goodnite, which made it all the way up to #5 on Billboards R&B chart in 1954.

For those of you who are new to the world of Doo-Wop music and are not familiar with the incredible harmonies of The Spaniels, go to youtube.com and search "The Spaniels, I Lost You, 1957" and you will be treated to one of the best Doo-Wop songs ever recorded.  This Killer Doo-Wop song is the #6 song on the B side of this LP, and I guarantee you that the lyrics, the melody, and the harmonies will blow you away!  And when the winning bidder plays this incredible LP, he will be treated to other Doo-Wop classics like ONE-HUNDRED YEARS FROM TODAY, HEART AND SOUL (also on youtube.com), and SO DEEP WITHIN.  But this sensational LP also demonstrates the versatility of The Spaniels with rockers like STORMY WEATHER, and BABY SWEETS.

The jacket receives a grade of VG, due to flaking along the seams, stains at the corners, a bit of fading on the dogs and the word SPANIELS, and a crease at the lower left on the front.  But the overall appearance of the jacket is still quite acceptable, especially when you consider that the jacket is 48 years old.  And now to the good news.  The condition of the record is sensational!

The labels receive a grade of NM-, as the colors of the Rainbow are very vivid (as is the Vee Jay logo), and the printing is excellent...the images that I took do not realistically do the labels justice, as they look as if they were printed last week! 
 
The vinyl receives a grade of VG+, due to the usual rubs and minor surface scratches, but there is plenty of gloss on both A and B sides, and you will not be disappointed with the overall look of the vinyl.  For those of you who consider this to be important, the numbers on the dead wax are as follows: A side: VEE JAY-60-1468 6-11-60, and B side: VEE JAY-60-1469 6-11-60.  These letters and numbers were hand-written, NOT stamped.

The sound receives a grade of VG+, due to the minimal background noise, but I assure you that I am a very conservative grader, and you will be very pleased with the overall sound of this record.  I was a bit too young to hear this incredible group's songs on the radio station airwaves throughout the US, but for those of you who were teenagers and young adults during this wonderful time, listening to the songs on this LP make you "take a stroll down memory lane."
