Sometimes I include albums given to me or purchased from friends or relatives. I do not go to swap meets, garage sales, or thrift stores. I do go to record conventions as time permits. You will be bidding for very rare, original issue and quality albums. Sometime I will list rare re-issues or later pressings. They will be stated as (re) in the listing. I use Goldmine Standard Catalog as a grading guideline and tend to be conservative.
FROM MY PERSONAL COLLECTION; You are bidding for a super rare original pressing of The Raindrops and recorded on the Jubilee Label JGM-5023 in Superlaphonic Hi-Fi, valued for $150+ NM in the Goldmine Price Guide. The trio included Jeff Barry and Sisters Ellie and Laura Greenwich.
The 49 year old Album Cover is in very good condition and will be a highlight in the Music Room. There is just a 1" upper right corner seam split, 7" Lower right side, scuffs and a small punch hole in the lower left corner. There is no discoloration, ring wear, tape, tears, writing or wrinkles. The liner notes in back are clean, showing just some scuffs and a hint of discolorarion. The black shiny record is beautiful and the labels almost near mint, showing just a couple of tiny spindle marks from little use. I inspected the rare record under a 200 watt light and there were no feelable scratches, scuffs or groove lines, and few light feathery surface lines/paper cuts that did not affect the listening experience. I played the record just prior to listing and there were no loud pops or noisy hisses, just a quick non-descernible skip and stick on the last song on side one. An overall excellent listening experience.
The songs include; Side 1, What a Guy, Hanky Panky, I Won't Worry, It's So Wonderful, Da Doo Ron Ron, When The Boy's Happy. Side 2, The Kind Of Boy You Can't Forget, Isn't That Love, Every Little Beat, Even Though You Can't Dance, That Boy's Messin' Up My Mind, Not Too Young To Get Married.
Another rare, hard to find collectible for the serious collector and based on the Goldmine Guide, the Album Cover is graded VG, the overall quality of the listening experience, minus the skip and stick, a strong VG+ and the record's appearance a strong VG+. There is no reserve.
GRADING GUIDELINES FROM THE GOLDMINE PRICE GUIDE!
(NM or NM-) NM records are shiny with no visible defects such as writing, stickers or needle marks on the labels. The album cover should have no creases, folds, seam splits or any signs of human handling. It also will have no ring wear.
(VG+) or (Excellent) May show some slight signs of wear, including light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK. Minor signs of handling are OK. The cover might be marred by a cutout marking, small hole punch, a cut in the spine or a promotional stamp and even a tiny bit of ring wear.
(VG) Have more obvious flaws such as lack of gloss, groove wear, light scratches and needle marks. When played there will be surface noise that will not overpower the music overall. Noise in the passages, between songs is common. The cover may have minor seam splits, writing, tape, stickers, ring wear and scuffs.
(VG-) Is just a compounding of the VG category. Many obvious flaws but if the record is rare, may very well be worthwhile. I usually do not list records lower than the above grades.
Remember, when you are bidding, most of these records are usually 50+ years old and have been out of print for a very long time. When you consider that, damage, loss, and normal use or wear has reduced the market to the point that few of these wonderful treasures are even available today.
