GOLD STAR RECORDING STUDIOS, Hollywood - June 1965
The 'Wall of Sound' backing track to this recording was produced and arranged by Jerry Riopelle in early summer 1965 during his tenure working for Phil Spector at Philles Records. The tune was originally written by Spector and Brian Wilson as a possible Ronettes recording but there was a breakdown in the process and the unfinished song was shelved. (Wilson would later rework the tune with the title, 'Don't Hurt My Little Sister' and record and issue it with the Beach Boys in 1965 on their 'Today' LP).
When the United States government contacted Spector about providing a song for the 'Equal Employment Opportunities Campaign', the unfinished track was dusted off and Riopelle was given the task of corresponding with the government, providing lyrics, booking the session and arranging & producing the track. When completed, it was sent to Detroit where the Supremes under the direction of their producers, provided vocals for the first version of 'Things Are Changing' in late July 1965. Jay & The Americans recorded their version in New York shortly after that and in May 1966, Riopelle was back at Gold Star producing the Blossoms version. There was even a version in Puerto Rico by Lucecita & Julio Angel. All versions utilized the same backing track.
About 4,000 copies of the combined versions were sent to radio stations around the the country and was not available to the public.
The labels are free of marks and have minor storage wear. The vinyl is clean and shiny, with some minor scuffing that does not affect play. An over all strong VG.
