Description

Up for grabs is a hard to find copy of the classic Surfin with Bo Diddley lp. Originally recorded at the legendary Chess studios in Chicago in 1963, this is a UK reissue on the Marble Arch lable (MAL 751) from 1967. Probably the hardest one of his studio albums to find, and rarely seen in Australia. Bo had was a major influence on the early surf guitarists, with his unique playing techniques and playing style, use of guitar effects, and his onstage showmanship. Like many albums from the era, it was yet another attempt to cash in on the surfing craze. However, it could also be seen as his way of staking his claim as one of the godfathers of the surf genre!!

Either way, where most similar albums failed to impress, this one is a cracker! Bo cranks the reverb and tremolo to 10 and backed by The Megatons they deliver a collection of r&b/blues/rock n roll style songs, with a very surf feel. "Surfers Love Call" is the only vocal track, and the album is a mix of covers and originals. "Surf, Sink, or Swim" and "Low Tide" are my favourite tracks, both with a very garage feel, Bo Diddley at his best! Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3mIeb1GtrU

The Cover is (Ex), with only minor signs of wear. No writing, stickers, seam splits, tears, heavy creases etc.

Album is (EX). Clean and glossy, with a couple of very minor marks. Sounds fantastic on my turntable!

Labels are (Ex-), clean but a few minor spindle marks.

All in all, a fantastic playing or display copy....a must have for any Bo Diddley fan or collector of surfing memorabilia!

Can be picked up from Mt Martha, Vic, or will post Australia wide in an Aus Post padded bag and carboard record mailer for $9.00. Registered Post available at an additional cost. Thanks for looking, good luck!
