DEMO LP
This is probably a one-off and unique Demo album. White label with hand written information. This LP came from the Luton area so was probably owned by a band member at one time.
When issued in 1971 the band consisted of Mick Kerensky (aka Mick Wright, guitar, violin), Paul Jolly (sax), Jack O'Neill (bass) and the late Al Chambers (drums), they formed in Luton in 1969. Their disquieting music set despondent lyrics ("every day is a drag" claims the frantic opener ) to heavy, jazzy rock. A band ahead of their time.
Review: “A very sombre lot, Sweet Slag cook their brand of progressive hard-rock with more spices than many. Almost all tracks (invariably written by Kerensky) are depressed, bitter and subtly menacing. Although it's hard to point out any highlights, the overall atmosphere of despair and waste is so strong that it permeates all rock conventions, turning this album into a document of some of the darker conditions of the human soul. There are also quite a few excellent and very discordant guitar solos to be found here. It may take some time to explore all the hidden and suppressed fear in this music, but it is rewarding to do so.”
This rare LP has some scuffs so pops are audible on quiet parts. But it plays OK and cleaned on my vinyl machine it plays very well and the music cuts through fine.
