GRADAZIONE RIGOROSA - STRICTLY GRADED

Copertine e vinili sono visualmente gradati dopo un’attenta osservazione sotto la luce del sole fatta sulla mia terrazza a tetto. Nelle giornate grigie vengono controllati sotto una forte lampada alogena con l’aiuto di una lente d’ingrandimento. Tutti i 33 giri in asta sono stati interamente ascoltati su un giradischi Rega Planar 3 fornito di una testina a magnete mobile Grado Statement 1. Per EP e singoli a 45 giri utilizzo un Thorens TD 166 BC con testina, sempre MM, Goldring 1006. Ritenendo che le abituali classificazioni quali Mint, Ex, Vg, ecc., ecc… siano poco significative per spiegare le reali condizioni dei dischi ed anche estremamente soggettive, precedo sempre tali classificazioni con una breve descrizione degli eventuali difetti che ho riscontrato, ad eccezione di Mint- che il più alto grado che conferisco a qualsiasi disco. Soltanto per le copie ancora sigillate all’origine utilizzo MINT/MINT.

Sleeves and vinyls are visually graded after a careful check in bright sunshine on my roof terrace. In the gray days I watch the records under a strong halogen lamp with the help of a magnifying glass. All LPs in auction have been fully heard on a Rega Planar 3 turntable with a Grado Statement 1 moving magnet cartridge. I listen EPs and singles 45 rpm. on a Thorens TD 166 BC turntable with a Goldring 1006 MM cartridge. Considering that the usual classifications such as Mint, EX, Vg, etc…, etc… are not significant to explain the real condition of the records in addition to a total subjectivity of opinion, I always introduce before these classifications a short description concerning any defects I have verified with the exception of Mint minus, the highest grade I declare. I use MINT/MINT exclusively for the still from factory sealed copies.

Note : anche se non accreditati sappiamo che nella colonna sonora originale del film parteciparono grandi musicisti come il pianista John Williams, i sassofonisti Art Pepper e Gene Cipriano, il bassista Leroy Vinnegar e il batterista Shelly Manne. Essendo stati i due album rilasciati quasi contemporaneamente è pensabile che almeno uno dei sopra citati musicisti possa essere presente in questo album. Naturalmente è soltanto un'ipotesi senza nessuna prova concreta. l'unica certezza è la presenza come arrangiatore del pianista René Hernández, già con Machito creatore del Jazz latino. E' verosimile che abbia partecipato alle registrazioni anche come pianista. Il produttore del disco fu Jack Lewis, scomparso tre anni fa, che lavorò tra l'altro con Duke Ellington, Coleman Hawkins, Zoot Sims, Milt Jackson, Joao Gilberto, ecc.

Tutte le tracce delle versioni cha cha cha  sono presenti nella colonna sonora del film. Una divertente serie di brani pieni di brio resi immortali dalla presenza nel film di Marilyn Monroe sia come attrice che cantante. Molto piacevole è "Charleston" (a6) con il suo arrangiamento latino così come " I Wanna Be Loved by You" (a3) e "Runnin' Wild" (b1) con ottimo coinvolgimento della sezione fiati e del pianoforte pure con qualche vena jazzeggiante.

Notes : although uncredited, we know in the original film soundtrack participated great musicians such as pianist John Williams, saxophonists Art Pepper and Gene Cipriano, bassist Leroy Vinnegar and drummer Shelly Manne. Since both albums were released almost at the same time it is conceivable that at least one of the above mentioned musicians may be present in this LP. Of course it is just a simple assumption without any concrete evidence. The only one certitude is the presence as arranger of René Hernández, formerly with Machito, the creator of Latin jazz. It is probable that he also participated as pianist in the recording sessions. The producer of the record was Jack Lewis, died three years ago, who worked among others with Duke Ellington, Coleman Hawkins, Zoot Sims, Milt Jackson, Joao Gilberto, etc., etc. All the tracks in cha cha cha version are featured in the film soundtrack. An enjoyable parade of lively tunes immortalized by the presence in the film of Marilyn Monroe both as actress and singer. Very pleasant is "Charleston" (a6) with its Latin arrangement as well as "I Wanna Be Loved by You" (a3) and "Runnin' Wild" (b1) with nice involvement of the brass section and piano even with some jazzy veins.
