Description

33rpm vinyl LP Record of SXL 2012 Grieg PEER GYNT (incidental music to Ibsen's play), featuring the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Oivin Fjeldstad. It was issued on the stereo DECCA wideband grooved label in 1958. 'Original Recording By' in the 10 o'clock position (ED1). UK pressing. Matrices: ZAL 3901 6D/ZAL 3902 2E
The record itself grades excellent minus on Side 1 and excellent on Side 2 with light surface marks visible under normal domestic lighting. Play tested on an audio-technica turntable. Superb sound quality with just a tiny bit of distortion lasting no more than a few seconds on Side One and no issues on Side Two. Plays very nicely indeed. I would say about 99.8% without fault.
Labels are clean with minimal to no spindle wear and no more than very light spider marks.
The outer blue back sleeve grades excellent, a lovely example, with light handling and storage wear, a little creasing to the bottom flap on the back cover and a little laminate lift in a couple of places. The thin spine is intact and strong. The inner sleeve also grades excellent with no splits or tears, colours and text still vibrant - a lovely example.
Other information:
Matrix numbers are printed upside-down on the labels.
The bottom flap on the back cover bears the company code: B & M 58.10 and Printed in England Also on the back cover is the text: Cover illustration by Arthur Rackham from Ibsen's Peer Gynt reproduced by kind permission of the publishers, G. G. Harrap and Co. Ltd.
All in all a lovely copy of this very early Decca stereo pressing.
