BRAHMS SYMPHONY No. 1 IN C MINOR 1958 ED1 DECCA SXL 2013 STEREO FIRST PRESS DEEP GROOVE VINYL LP IN BLUE BORDERED SLEEVE

Sleeve Condition: MINT: There isn’t much I would risk grading as Mint, in fact I can’t recall the last time I did. This however, is a rare occasion when it is an appropriate grade.  Stunning, unmarked and looking like the day it came off the shelf in 1958, the colours glow, the laminate is perfect and the sleeve is perfectly flat.  If one were to be really picky, close examination of two of the corners reveal microscopic bumping. The best preserved, 1950’s record sleeve I’ve ever seen.

Inner Sleeve Condition: MINT: white, uncreased and free from signs of use or aging.

Record Condition: NEAR MINT: some groove ‘ssh’ at the run-in groove on Side 2 which is only on the run-in groove and disappears immediately the music begins.  Side 2 has one, inexplicable tick a few revolutions in.  I have played it several times, examined it under a magnifying glass and can see no explanation for it.  There is absolutely no evidence of damage to the vinyl and it is certainly not enough to disturb tracking.  It is just one, solitary, light tick.  Otherwise the record is in stunning condition, plays perfectly and is as close to the condition in which it was bought as I believe it is possible to find.

This is the very first pressing of SXL 2017 with the blue border to the rear of the sleeve and ED1 (Original Recording By..) to the top of the label with the deep groove running around the inner circumference.  Matrix numbers are ZAL – 3787 – 1K & ZAL – 3788 – 1K.

This is one of the last few of a remarkable collection in almost or literally ‘as new’ condition. It would not be an exaggeration to describe nearly all of them as in ‘archive’ condition.   In 25 years of record dealing and over 40 years of collecting myself, I have never come across records so perfectly cared for and in almost perfectly preserved inner and outer sleeves.
