Description

A beautiful copy of the most sought-after of the Decca opera recordings.  Four disc boxed set, SXL 2087/90, black wideband label discs pressed in England.  SXL 2087 and 2090 are the early "pancake" pressings, heavy vinyl with a flat edge.  2088 and 2089 are grooved wideband ED1.  All have "Original Recording by..." text at 10 o'clock.  Stampers are 5E 4F 4F 3E 3F 2K 4F 4K.  Grey box with blue stereo slicks on the front and the spine.  See pics.  Includes both the original insert and the complete libretto.  The libretto is not often found with this set because it was not included with the early issues.  It had to be purchased separately. 

Mozart, Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro), complete opera.  Erich Kleiber conducts the Vienna Philharmonic.  Recorded in 1955, this was Kleiber's only stereo recording for Decca.  Issued in stereo in very small numbers in 1959.  Cast includes Cesare Siepi, Lisa Della Casa, Suzanne Danco, Hilde Gueden and Alfred Poell.  See pics for complete cast.

Discs are in NM- to NM condition.  One noticeable superficial mark at the beginning of side 3 does not sound.  Just a couple other small barely visible sleeve traces and one small mild pressing bump on side 4.  The only noticeable spindle wear is a bit on side 8, which would mean the the original owner rarely, if ever, got past side 1.   Plays great, with only the very occasional light tic.  Box VG++, no split corners.  A little bit of wear to the top edge and right side, visible in the pictures.  A beautiful copy.  Do not be put off by the meticulous description.  You will look long and hard to find a better copy of this great recording.
