Description
This is an Early Decca 1st label (or ED1) of this recording. It features Josef Krips conducting the London Symphony Orchestra in Schumann's 1st and 4th symphonies. The label on the disc has a wide silver band just above the centre and a circular groove approx 1cm in from the edge (Wide Band with groove: WBg). On the rim of the label at 10/11 o’clock are printed the words “ORIGINAL RECORDING BY”. The matrix numbers engraved on the run-outs are: ZAL-3631-1M and ZAL-3632-1M. The centre label includes the text "RECORDING FIRST PUBLISHED 1960". The outer sleeve is the original, flip-back, lightweight cardboard (no spine) laminated on the front. Disc and outer sleeve were both made in England. The inner sleeve is period Decca ffss printed paper with polythene liner.
The LP will be supplied with a protective 50g PVC sleeve and will be packaged in a Defenda LP mailer made of corrugated cardboard, with additional bubble-wrap. (No charge for these.)
Condition of Disc The disc is flat and the playing surfaces are glossy and clean. Centre labels are free of writing, sticky labels or stains; and show some signs of "squirreling" or spindle wear around the centre hole. After the disc has been wiped with a damp cloth, it plays very well, with negligible loss of high-end frequency. Half way through the 1st movement on Side 1, these is a tiny pressing blister, that at high volume produces 5 or 6 low-level, low -frequency blips. As with all discs of this age, it would probably benefit from machine-cleaning. Overall, I have graded the disc conservatively as "VG+" (Record Collector).Condition of Sleeve
There is some shelf/handling wear including minor creasing & ring-wear on the front but no writing, tears, sticky labels or lifting of laminate. The centre of the top fold has the start of a split about 2 cm long. The unlaminated back is a little grubby with clear ring wear.
