Here is the original UK Stereo LP/ Album Schererazade- Symphonic Suite Op. 35/ Polovtsian Dances- Prince Igor from 1961. Schererazade- Symphonic Suite Op. 35 was composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov while Polovtsian Dances- Prince Igor was composed by Alexander Borodin. All Music is played by L’Orchestre de La Suisse Romande (OSR), with Ernest Ansermet conducting. Lorand Fenyves plays Solo Violin on Schererazade- Symphonic Suite Op. 35 while Andre Charlet also conducts on Polovtsian Dances- Prince Igor. Two choirs accompany L’Orchestre de La Suisse Romande on Polovtsian on Dances- Prince Igor. They are Choeur Des Jeunes & Choeur De Radio Lausanne. Housed in a front laminated double flip back sleeve & released on Decca Records, the Catalogue Number is SXL 2268. The track listing is Schererazade- Symphonic Suite Op. 35:  1st mov. The Sea And Sinbad’s Ship/ 2nd  mov. The Story Of The Kalandar Prince/ 3rd mov. The Young Prince And The Young Princess/ 4th mov. Festival At Bagdad & Polovtsian Dances- Prince Igor.  The package was made in England for UK release. PLEASE NOTE: In order to show as much detail as possible, some pictures have been merged together to create single images (e.g. views of record in inner sleeve & views of record out of inner sleeve).

The Matrix Numbers are described using a clock face. The first part is the main body of the Matrix Number. It will be at 6 o’clock if it is located in front of the label with the writing curving away from me at the ends (as I look) and at 12 o’clock if it is located behind the label with the writing curving towards me at the ends (as I look). Other times give a rough idea of where additional parts of the Matrix Number are located, in relation to the main part. It’s not meant to be foolproof, just to give an idea of where the various parts of the matrix are, in relation to each other.

The front laminated sleeve has two flip backs. Some sleeves have a small semi-circular cut- out along the edge of each flip back. The edges on this example are straight. The word STEREO is written in large letters at the top left of the front sleeve. A Boxed Decca logo appears on the front and on the back of the sleeve. The spine is quite thin & has text along most of its length. Credits on the back of the sleeve state “© The Decca Record Co. Ltd., London, 1961” under uncredited liner notes, “Printed in England by St. James Press” & "Laminated with 'Clarifoil' made by British Celanese Limited". The record itself is housed within a Decca ffss "Full Frequency Stereophonic Sound" Company inner sleeve. Text on each labels rim between 10 and 2 o'clock state "ORIGINAL RECORDING BY THE DECCA RECORD CO.LTD. LONDON". The presence of “ORIGINAL RECORDING” (as opposed to MADE IN ENGLAND) in the top left indicates that this is an ED1 Black/silver 'grooved wide band' release, although I’m not 100% certain that the sleeve is (due to the lack of “cut- outs” mentioned above). Each side has the ffss logo, "Full Frequency Stereophonic Sound" written on a wide sliver band, "MADE IN ENGLAND" written on the bottom, above the rim & "Recording First published 1961" written to the left of spindle hole. Further information includes the Side identifier to the right of the spindle hole & the Matrix numbers being printed upside-down. The Decca 'Musical Notes' logo is on side 1 only while the "Hawkes & Son" Publisher Credit on side 2 applies to track 2 only.

Condition as follows including photographs: The sleeve is in excellent minus/ very good plus condition, due to creasing, wear & slight discoloration. There are a few small nicks to the open edge of the sleeve. The inner sleeve is in very good very/ good minus condition, due to slight creasing, slight wear & some discoloration. The name of another artist is written on the back of the inner sleeve. The Vinyl is in excellent minus/ very good plus condition. Both sides play through well, with no jumping, skipping or sticking. The overall sound is very good. There is slight surface noise intermittently throughout, mostly in quieter passages. I thought the surface noise was at an acceptable level. Some people may consider this invasive, while others may find that it does not affect their listening pleasure. I always expect some sound from records of this age & condition. *NOTES ON CONDITION: I grade according to the Record Collector Rare Record Price Guide & will not necessarily list all individual points in the written description. There will be a blanket grade for each component (sleeve, record etc), which smaller factors fall into. The general appearance will be clearly visible in the photographs. Please study the photographs in detail as they form the bulk of the description. Please be aware that play grading is based on my interpretation of what I hear on my system only. Although it is an honest assessment, it does not automatically follow that you would reach the same conclusion when listening on your own system, as there are so many variables.
