There are some delightful touches and phrasing, with some details of the score beautifully lit (horns and cellos in the opening are just gorgeous!) but also some disfiguring Karajanisms. However, the playing of the Vienna Philharmoniker is absolutely rivetting, beyond reproach - and they clearly respond to Karajan most positively. Luckily, too, the recording is one of the finest I have ever heard of the VPO, even from Decca - utterly natural and musical, but spectacularly so when needed. One of the finest versions I have heard of the Dvorak 8 since the superb Walter SBRG, which is still, for me, in a class of its own - and on the TAS list.

A very fine LP in every respect - not to be missed by any collector who doesn't have a copy. The Narrow Band sound is still fantastic...
