Description
Decca SXL 2289 ED1 Original Recording WBG Dvorak Symphony no 5(9) from the new world. Vienna philharmonic Orchestra Conductor Istvan Kertesz.
Matrix side 1 ZAL 5172-4E stamper 2B side 25173-2E stamper 1U
Please note that the stamper codes are very faint but I believe that I read them correctly.
I have played the record on my Linn/Quad system and consider that side one is NM with hardly any surface noise with two light ticks in the slow movement. Side two is very similar and would be NM but does have a mark on the surface about 1 cm long. 2 cm from the beginning of the second band which gives 3/4 light ticks but not together. I do not consider that these detract from the overall playback.
The Gatefold Cover is in NM condition clean bright and crisp the laminate is in superb condition with the exception of a slight nick 2/3 mm on the front cover that can be seen in the photo in the black band under the word orchestra The apparent dark mark in the top left corner of the sleeve is a shadow in the photo. The inside is near mint as is the back of the sleeve. The inner sleeve is original and still almost as clean as when it was new. Hopefully the pictures show the excellent condition of the sleeve.
This record is rated 17out of a max 20 in Robert Moons book Full Frequency Stereophonic Sound and is the earlier version by Kertesz before his later recordings. I consider that this is a wonderful recording and this record is an excellent example with wonderful reproduction.
