SYD BARRETT The Madcap Laughs UK Genuine 1st press Vinyl Harvest SVHL765, 1970
UK Early pressing, (possibly 2nd) vinyl LP in outer laminated gatefold sleeve. No EMI logo on labels. 'The Gramophone Co. Ltd....' text around the edge of the label. Only original early pressing labels have of the following:
1.Side 2 label has credits 'Barrett except + Joyce'. Later pressings have 'Barrett + Joyce'.
2. Green/yellow Harvest Label with no 'EMI' Logo and 'The Gramophone Co. Ltd.' at 11 o'clock on the outer rim.
3. SYD BARRETT' appears just above the 'HARVEST' logo at 9 o'clock. Later pressings move this higher up the label.
4. On each label side there is no gap between 'Lupus Music Ltd' and 'Produced by...' Later labels have a gap.
5. The inner sleeve is original with the Patent No. 1,125,555 and Made in Great Britain
The back cover shows printing/publishing date of 6911 (November 1969). The album was not released till early 1970 release.
Matrix shows:-
Side 1; SHVL 765 A-2G with the figure 1 at 3 o'clock and the letter G at 9 o'clock;
Side 2; SHVL 765 B-2G with the figure 1 at 3 o'clock and the letter R at 9 o'clock.
In terms of condition rating - I am no expert, the records have been cleaned with wet wipes and were played on a Technics turntable using a Technics P24 stylus. The overall vinyl condition I would say is Very good to very good ++. based on that the vinyl looks clean with some surface marks and scuffs, the centre is clean and virtually with no spindle marks (see photos). The vinyl does play with some background noise in quite sections and the 'dead wax' interludes.
I consider that the record plays exceptionally well throughout with a good depth of sound, especially considering its age.Dispatched with Royal Mail 1st Class
