The Cleveland Orchestra, Szell ~ Beethoven — Symphony No. 9 “Choral” & Symphony No. 8 Epic BSC 112 1961Superb recording of Beethoven’s eighth and ninth symphonies by Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra.
First US stereo pressing. Very rare promotional copy with ‘Demonstration’ stickers and stamp. Gold labels with black print. -1B/-1D/-1A/-1E early stampers.
Condition Box: VG. Some bumping to corners and wear to edges. ‘Demonstration’ stamp on inside liner notes. Labels: VG+ to NM. Side 3 label has some noticeable fingerprint marks. Promotional stickers on labels. Vinyl: VG+. Some superficial marks on vinyl - one more noticeable (not feelable) scratch on Side 2. Plays with some sporadic light surface noise and a few pops on my system. Sound quality could likely be improved with a proper VPI cleaning.
