Description
Original mono press with blue ballpoint pen signature. A Sam Cooke autograph is rare to begin with and his autograph on an LP is even rarer. He died young. LP is VG grade, plays well but has lots of light scuffs. Cover is VG grade and has tape repairing the top spine.
This is an unauthenticated signature and is as found. In my research of verified examples seen online this signature has matches at several key points. Feel free to look images up yourself and make your own comparison. In my opinion it looks legit.
In my many years as a record dealer this signature doesn’t look like forgery. It’s done in blue ballpoint pen that looks like it was running out of ink and it created a solid indentation into the jacket. It’s also personalized with a first and last name, not something a forger would do if they are creating something to sell. In other words I’m pretty confident that this is authentic. I buy and sell records for a living and this was found in an elderly man’s collection I bought from his widow after he passed away. It was in the collection with all the other records and nobody knew it was there until I noticed it when I was getting records ready to sell. I almost missed it. (There is other writing on the cover, I have no idea who else might have signed it, see photos.)
I have other autographed albums for sale and am working my way through listing more of them I have found in collections over the last several years.
