INNER SLEEVE: Blue Note 27 Years
GRADE & DESCRIPTION (COVER): Mint-. Virtually like new--still has the shrink. This came from a stash of new-old-stock from a Sacramento record store that closed in the 60's. I got 2 boxes of Blue Notes and a box each of Prestige and Impulse records. Most were still sealed, but many were probably re-sealed as there is the occasional number written very lightly on the back top. This one has a "31" written on the top back cover.
GRADE & DESCRIPTION (RECORD): NM- visually minty with the exception of some mottling of the surface due to manufacturing or scuffing from sleeve due to transit (I've seen this many times on vintage records from Blue Note and even more with Prestige LPs) but not a single scratch! Plays beautifully throughout! VAN GELDER stamps.
All records are cleaned with a VPI record cleaning machine and play-graded. GRADING TERMS
SS (Still Sealed)
Still contained in original unopened factory seal. Disc is assumed to be undamaged and mint; obviously this is unknown until the album is actually opened and disc examined.
M (Mint)
Perfect condition, no flaws, defects or marks indicating handling or playing. I don't take the word “Mint” lightly and will only use this grade on records in truly pristine condition.
M- or NM (“Mint-minus” or Near Mint)
Has a very minor defect or two that disqualifies it as mint. Vinyl, Labels & Cover are virtually flawless, bright, and shiny. Minor defects can be barely visible scuffs or hairline marks, label may have a small mark or be off center, cover might have a few small dents, or a tiny mark.
VG++
This is a non-standard GoldMine grade, middle grade between M- and VG+. Some visible surface wear, few very minor scratches and scuffs, with minimal impact on the sound quality. Vinyl will still have good luster; labels may have minor imperfections (small labels or initials, etc.) but otherwise clean. Cover has only slight wear.
VG+
Record will have moderate surface wear and may have light record noise at times but still plays nicely. There will be no skips, and audio quality is quite enjoyable, scratches are light and can’t be felt with fingernail. There might be a slight warp that doesn’t affect sound quality. The cover will have some wear but it is still nice to look at, a small seam split might be present. Flaws are quite varied at this grade level, and can include any of them but not very many. In general the vinyl will sound good and the cover will look good.
VG
Many of the defects found in a VG+ record will be more pronounced in a VG disc. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during a song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as with light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.
Labels may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached. The same will be true of picture sleeves or LP covers. However, it will not have all of these problems at the same time, only two or three of them.
COMMON TERMS
"Scuffs"
Scuffs are light marks on the record surface that are not scratches. Pretty much cosmetic and rarely affect the sound.
"Fingernail Scratch"
Between a scuff and a light scratch. They are pretty much just cosmetic and rarely affect the sound.
"Hairline, Surface or Light Scratches"
These are cosmetic scratches that may happen from sliding the record in and out of a paper sleeve, and usually do not affect the sound.
"Deep Scratches"
These are scratches that are deep enough into the grooves to affect the sound usually in the form of a repeating "tick".
"Pops"
These are caused from defects in pressing (usually a bubble or tiny cavity where the vinyl didn't fill properly.) On Jan-08-15 at 16:51:41 PST, seller added the following information:
