"Samurai Champuru" was broadcast on TV in 2004. Directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, this film is a "chanpuru" of period drama and Hip Hop elements, and its original picture and music captivated not only anime fans but also Hip Hop freaks. It is highly regarded not only in Japan but also in the world as an epoch-making film at that time.
Director Watanabe, who is known for his deep knowledge of music, selected the artists for this work: Nujabes, a rare trackmaker who rocked the scene with his lo-fi HipHop and later created many followers in Japan and overseas; Five Deez, who has been active since 2000s; fat jon, a solo artist who released an album produced by Nujabes; FORCE OF NATURE, a unit by KZA and DJ KENT who also worked on remixes for many artists and has a presence as a frontrunner in the club scene in Japan and overseas; and TSUTCHIE, a trackmaker of SHAKKAZOMBIE who has been leading the scene since the dawn of Japanese HipHop.
The track made for their "Samurai Champuru" was released as 4 CDs of "Departure," "masta," "impression" and "playlist" in 2004 and became a smash hit.
