Description

An original 1st press from '72 on the QUAD format in the USA. Matrix 1B/1C. Note how the labels have gold stickers applied over the 'Columbia' text. This was such a niche format at the time that when they sold abroad Columbia opted to just apply correcting stickers rather than reprint labels. Ha! Columbia was the brand name within the states- worldwide distribution was handled by 'CBS'. So, this is probably a really hard version to track down. The vinyl comes housed in an original QUAD cover. We also have the original QUAD inner adverting inner too. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex) In super condition and has only seen light use. Under close inspection I could only make out a couple of incredibly slight blemishes - nothing that will get remotely near the audio. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with one deviation. Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. S3 was always going to be a mega-hifi recording. And the QUAD treatment works well - even under two channels. Love the mix. Lots of low level detail. Finding it hard to fault. Maybe a few brief crackles in one isolated spot per side. And one isolated click as 'Guajira' starts up. Plays clean as a whistle tho.... Superb!
Cover (Ex-) Very clean and flat surfaces front and rear. Not much sign of surface wear at all - which is unusual. There's a touch of surface level creasing top left on the rear [pretty superficial ]. Minimal edge wear and firm openings. One slight bump to bottom left corner. Other than that the spine is fully intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity in part thanks to the heavy card employed in manufacture.
Inner (Vg) Light ageing. A couple of side splits have been taped up.
