Description

12 INCH "NATIONAL VOCARIUM" VICTOR RECORD of SARAH BERNHARDT

Sarah Bernhardt (c. 22/23 October 1844 — 26 March 1923) was a French stage and early film actress, and has been referred to as "the most famous actress the world has ever known.  Bernhardt made her fame on the stages of France in the 1870s, and was soon in demand in Europe and the Americas. She developed a reputation as a serious dramatic actress, earning the nickname "The Divine Sarah".

Ms. Bernhardt's records are certainly interesting to listen to even though they are in French.

There is an interesting extended announcement in the beginning in "English."

These "Vocarium Series" are recorded quite well from older recordings and this near mint record is loud and clear throughout.

The label and the rear side of this record are beautiful.

With this auction goes a sad story.

My "Edison Grand Opera Cylinder of Bernhardt is rare and I've loved playing it all these years.

However, while putting it on the mandrel one day, it crumbled.

It ruined my week. I just want it out of here, so the winner can have it. The box is in fairly good shape with the correct top. The cylinder inside the box is a mess. (See Picture.)You can put this on your shelf or throw it in the trash.

The selection on the disc is "Scene V Act V of Rostand's Dama "L'Aiglon."

Thanks for looking and Good Luck.
