Sarasate Carmen Fantaisie Ruggiero Ricci UK Decca SXL 2197 WBG

 

Ruggiero Ricci with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Pierino Gamba performs the Bizet-Sarasate “Carman Fantaisie”, Sarasate’s “Zingeunerweisen”, and Saint-Saens “Havanaise” and “Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso”.  An English stereo pressing on the Decca Label (SXL 2197 stampers 1E/2E), the labels have Original recording by… at 10 o’clock, a full frequency stereophonic sound fatband and ffss logo, and a groove. The record has a deep scratch near the start of side one and this clicks for about 40 to 50 revolutions, mostly fairly softly, but with a few louder ones. This is more of a pity as, apart from minor scuffs, the record is of very good appearance and it plays and sounds superb with some occasional surface noise, but with outstanding recorded sound quality and breathtaking virtuosity from Ricci.. The cover has some small creases in the laminate and is otherwise in very good condition.
